Getting the most out of your equipment stickers

A sticker on the equipment is the cheapest advertising you will ever run. It sits where the homeowner looks when something goes wrong — and where the next tech looks first.

Where to put them on the equipment

The rule is simple: put it where someone will be standing when they need your number. On a furnace or air handler, that is the cabinet door at eye level — not the side panel that faces the wall. On a water heater, the front near the controls. On a condenser, the service panel rather than the top, where debris and standing water collect.

Keep it clear of data plates, model and serial labels, and anything a future tech or inspector needs to read. Wipe the panel down first; a permanent adhesive only performs on a clean, dry, flat surface.

What belongs on a service sticker

Four things earn their space: company name, phone number, license number, and a line for the service date and tech initials. Everything else competes with the phone number.

Make the phone number the largest element on the sticker — larger than the logo. A homeowner standing in a basement with a failed furnace is reading it from three feet away in bad light. Some crews add a QR code to the review or booking page, which works well on the larger sizes where it will not crowd the number.

Choosing a size

Five sizes are available: 3.5" x 3.5", 3" x 4", 4" x 4", 4" x 6", and 5" x 7".

4" x 4" is the most popular for a reason — it reads from across a room and still fits the flat area on most cabinet doors and condenser panels. Drop to 3.5" x 3.5" or 3" x 4" for tight spots like thermostats, disconnects, and control boxes. Move up to 4" x 6" or 5" x 7" when you want room for a maintenance log grid or a service-plan message alongside the contact details.

Stock, adhesive and finish

These print on 70lb sticker stock with a split liner and a permanent adhesive. The split liner is the detail that matters on a job: it lets a tech peel and place one-handed, with gloves on, without fighting the backing.

The front carries full-color printing with a UV coating, which keeps the ink from scuffing as the panel gets opened and closed over the years. Artwork prints best from a vector file — AI, EPS, PDF, or SVG — though a high-resolution logo works too. Run sizes go from 500 to 20,000, and the per-unit price drops sharply as the run grows.
